Just ten years ago the S. Antonio B&B was a 'stavolo' (hay barn) located approximately 1km outside the town, on the road that leads to the trails and the 'malghe', i.e. the huts of the shepherds in the high mountains. It had been abandoned for a long time and restoration saved it from being demolished. The exterior is authentic and where possible, recycled materials were used. In the local dialect of Carnia, the district called Modepoudn means 'scything plain', thus expressing the abundance of grazing pastures and its enormous value for the farming economy. Nowadays, this location continues to be isolated with respect to the town, immersed as it is in the forest, but it provides very easy access to the trails that lead to the nearby hamlets and malghe, i.e. the huts of the shepherds, where ricotta and the typical cheese of Carnia are produced throughout the summer.
